Powells.comTitle: e-Commerce Marketing Manager
Job description: Powell's Books has grown into one of the world's
great bookstores, with six locations in the
Portland metropolitan area, and one of the most
successful e-Commerce book stores serving
customers worldwide.
We seek an experienced, entrepreneurial, and
data-driven e-Commerce professional to drive
online customer demand to new levels of success.
The e-Commerce Marketing Manager will develop,
manage, and influence key business initiatives
across internal and external organizations.
This role will focus on the implementation,
monitoring, reporting, and ROI of
performance-based strategies and tactics for
customer acquisition and retention, generating
sales utilizing online marketing vehicles to
decrease bounce rates, improve conversion, and
increase profit-per-customer. To help
accomplish these goals, the e-Commerce Marketing
Manager will inspire a team of marketing
professionals to excellence through feedback,
coaching, and goal setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and monitor customer acquisition and retention strategies and programs to drive customer demand, website traffic, sales, and customer loyalty. This includes: email marketing, affiliate programs, partnership marketing/content integration programs, product data feed driven programs, and other media-based business building activities
- Utilize a data-driven approach to make decisions about Powells.com, online marketing program details, user experience optimization, customer communication tactics, and online merchandising, including:
- Search Engine Optimization - Review current approach to SEO and make recommendations for improvements. Develop processes to ensure SEO best practices are in place and maintained. Work with third-party sites to develop quality, high value links back to Powells.com.
- Search Engine Marketing - Review current approach to paid keyword campaigns and make recommendations for improvements. Manage paid keyword campaigns, monitoring costs and conversion rates, including the development and deployment of custom landing pages. Recommend ways to improve conversion of product pages.
- Web Analytics - Drive the adoption and use of web analytics at Powells.com. Work with the development team to ensure Powells.com, site landing pages, and all marketing campaigns are properly tagged and tracked. Create and maintain regular reporting to the Powells.com management team focusing on key, actionable metrics.
- Lead, manage, and motivate the marketing team and create a culture of accountability
- Manage existing and new approaches to content presentation and publishing for Powells.com, as well as products, services, and offerings
- Drive new initiatives for merchandising and presentation of products, services, and offerings on Powells.com
- Improve business processes by collaborating with other internal organizations
- Stay abreast of changes in the online marketing environment, competitors, and trends to best serve the objectives of the organization and adjust plans accordingly
- Additional responsibilities include: project management, budget management, and vendor management
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent on-the-job
experience; Master's Degree is a plus
- 5+ years of hands-on online marketing
experience; 5+ years of experience managing a
team
- Strong management skills with the experience to initiate, drive, and manage cross-functional
programs, and a history of leading and motivating
direct reports
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Keen ability to identify business issues,
formulate plans to resolve these issues, and
effectively communicate the results to executive
management
- Exceptional knowledge of Google AdWords, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization,Website Analytics, Affiliate Networks, Shopping sites, Email and industry best practices
- Experience with optimizing Search Engine
Marketing campaigns through ad, keyword, and
landing page optimization
- Proven ability to supervise and manage multiple projects and changing priorities while delivering superior results within given deadlines
- Strong oral, written, strategic thinking,
presentation, and negotiation skills
- Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality
- Love of books and reading

BurnsideTitle: Temporary Reconciliation Office Specialist (Part-time)
Job description:
Powell's Books has a temporary part-time opening
for a Reconciliation Office Specialist to assist
with the additional workload during our busy
holiday season. This position will be responsible
for data entry, reconciling gift cards, and
office tasks as assigned. Qualified applicants
for this position must have experience with Excel
spreadsheets, demonstrated data entry skills,
excellent computer skills, be detail oriented,
able to work at a fast pace, and possess strong
teamwork skills. Confidentiality required.
Previous cash office experience is strongly
preferred. The work schedule is likely to be 20
hours: 8AM-12PM Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, & Sat
(schedule flexibility preferred). This position
will start November 30th and will last as needed
into February.
