"Can I learn Swedish by tomorrow? I don't think I can wait until 2009 (scheduled English translation) to read Stieg Larsson's next book in his Millenium trilogy. I pulled The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo off the shelf to read the first page (to decide whether it was worth reading the entire 500 pages) and awoke from my reading trance the next day, having read the book straight through. Lisbeth Salander is an unforgettable character in this mystery / drama / social commentary. The status of women is an ongoing theme and is dealt with in a strikingly powerful way.
